What open interest tells you

Open interest is the total value of futures positions that are still open. Rising open interest alongside rising price suggests new longs are entering; rising open interest with falling price suggests new shorts. Falling open interest means positions are being closed or liquidated.

FAQ

What is open interest?

Open interest is the number or value of outstanding futures contracts that have not been closed or settled. Unlike volume, it measures how much leverage is currently in the market, not how much was traded.

Is high open interest bullish or bearish?

Neither on its own. Compare it with price, funding rate and CVD: a big open interest build-up with crowded funding often precedes sharp liquidation moves in either direction.

Is FuturesLens a free Coinalyze or CoinGlass alternative?

Yes. FuturesLens is a free Coinalyze alternative and free CoinGlass alternative for crypto futures analytics. Open interest, funding rate, liquidations, long/short ratio, basis, CVD and volume delta are available without an account, loaded directly from public Binance, Bybit and Gate.io market data.
